I have all sorts of exciting news to report! I am thrilled to share that Boutwell Studio, for the fourth year in a row, was named Best of Weddings by The Knot Magazine.

We were also featured last month in both the National and Southern California editions of The Knot Magazine.  Congrats to Julie and Bill, who got married at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes last November –

2010 Favorites – Details

Oh how I love the little things! As if shooting people in love isn’t enough, I also get to see and photograph some of the most beautiful shoes, dresses, hairpieces, flowers and tablescapes around. I always set aside some time to photograph these little, often-missed details because I know how much time and thought my clients put in to choosing them.

Although I love to shoot portraits on the wedding day, I consider myself more of a hands-off photographer.  I am most in my element when standing back, observing quietly and capturing those little, unexpected moments that occur at weddings. 2010 Favorites – Wedding Portraits

For the last several years, I’ve started off the New Year with a series of posts, looking back at my favorite images from the past year. It’s a nice way for me to regroup, see where I can improve and grow, and share with my readers my true passion.

First up, my favorite wedding portraits from last year. When shooting portraits, my focus is always, first and foremost, finding beautiful light.  After finding my light, I try to create a comfortable, light-hearted and safe atmosphere for my subjects to relax, have fun, and share their natural chemistry with me and my camera.

Santa Monica Wedding, Shutters Wedding Photos, Jen & Nic

Saturday was my last shoot before our little one is born, and what a lovely way to end my season!  Jen and Nic had a beautiful wedding at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica, CA, followed by a reception at Shutter’s on the Beach in Santa Monica.  With the awesome guidance of Michelle at Details, Details and beautiful flowers by JL Designs, this event was a gorgeous way to end a wonderful wedding season.

Claremont Wedding Photography, Casa 425, Stacy & Joe

Stacy and Joe are cute as a button.  They are two totally genuine people who are always smiling, always laughing and always sincere.  I was delighted to photograph their wedding at Casa 425 Hotel in Claremont last weekend, along with my good friends Lane Dittoe and Amy Boring, who were kind enough to come along as back-up, in case the little bun in my oven decided to make an appearance (no baby news quite yet!)

The wonderful Kary Heimbach of Kary H Events was the planner for this wedding and, as always, she was an absolute pleasure to work with!

I honestly cannot say enough nice things about Nicole and Steve.  They are warm, funny, gracious and so adorably in love.  I had an awesome time capturing this beautiful wedding with an Old Hollywood feel…

Newport Beach Wedding Photographer, Tammi & Kurt

I’ve been looking forward to shooting Tammi & Kurt’s wedding for a while.  The thought of a gorgeous couple tying the knot amongst vintage airplanes in a local airplane hangar really piqued my interest.  Add to that Brooke Keegan, Elegant By Design and a host of other great vendors, and it was a perfect day!

San Clemente Wedding Photographer, Casa Romantica Wedding

It’s blog catch-up day here at Boutwell Studio! My next lovely wedding to share is Natalie and Chuck’s vintage-infused Casa Romantica wedding.  I absolutely love shooting at Casa Romantica in San Clemente, CA and this wedding was no exception. Natalie and Chuck are both super-sweet and laid back doctors (which was comforting to this 8-months-pregnant photographer!) and it was a blast photographing their special day.

Huntington Beach Wedding Photographer, Kathleen & Dan
